First fix the missing shift
Open Phone → Jobs, select a career, and check its work days and city. Choosing a job and attending its shift are separate actions. A role in another city can leave you waiting in the wrong place.
During a work day, use Go to work when the game offers it. If the control is missing, check the clock, work calendar and city before applying for a different job. Public walkthroughs describe a 6 AM–10 PM work window, but your live prompt is the deciding rule.
Prepare your energy before the shift. Use your home’s bed and available food actions; a long trip with low needs can undo the preparation. Once a shift completes, inspect the balance change rather than assuming the headline salary was your take-home pay.

Put a floor under Saturday
The opening week is a cash-flow problem, not a race to buy furniture. Saturday rent is the recurring checkpoint reported by the walkthroughs. A LAPO start may also have a weekly loan repayment; read the obligation shown on your own Bank screen.
Use spendable balance = current balance − next rent − next loan instalment − food/transport reserve. Only the result belongs in your shopping budget. For example, a balance of 30,000 with 6,000 rent, 12,000 repayment and 4,000 reserve leaves 8,000. Those four inputs are an illustration, not fixed prices in your game.
If the result is negative, your next move is earning or reducing a commitment. Moving to a more expensive home because it looks better makes this problem harder before it makes your character richer.
